March to May and October to November are the most comfortable months, with warm days and orange blossom in spring. Holy Week and the April Fair are spectacular but crowded, and rooms book up far ahead. July and August are extremely hot, so plan sightseeing for early morning and evening.
How many days you need
Two to three days covers the cathedral and Giralda tower, the Real Alcázar, the Santa Cruz quarter, Plaza de España and an evening in Triana across the river. Add a day for Córdoba, which is a short high-speed train ride away, or for Cádiz or Jerez.
Getting around
The historic center is flat and very walkable, and many of its lanes are too narrow for traffic. A tram, a metro line, buses and a public bike-share scheme cover longer distances, and an airport bus runs to the center. Taxis are easy to find for late nights.
What to skip
Book timed tickets for the Real Alcázar and the cathedral ahead, as walk-up lines can be long. Restaurants right beside the cathedral tend to charge more for less; a few streets away, or over in Triana, is closer to how locals eat. In summer, avoid planning long walks in the middle of the day.
