How to read these pictures
- Road cameras show the road surface, traffic and weather at one spot only. They are run by Caltrans; the road authority's own traffic and road-condition information governs, not a single picture.
- Volcano cameras are the observatories' monitoring cameras. Cloud, steam, night or distance often hide the crater. A quiet picture is not a statement about volcanic activity: the observatory's alert level and notices govern (see the volcano webcams page).
- Park and nature cameras show scenery and, in some cases, visitor areas or air quality. Park alerts, closures and conditions come from the park or weather service, not from the picture.
When this page was built, 26 of the 26 cameras in United States had a file time we could read, and the newest file was between 0 and 1813 minutes old (median 1 minutes). Pictures refresh when each publisher's camera uploads, so a picture can be a few minutes old, and a camera can go down at any time. A webcam picture is not an official warning, forecast or road report: the official source for that place governs.

Quick answers
- Are these United States webcams live video?
- No, they are still pictures, each one the latest frame the publisher's camera has uploaded. Voyaggora does not copy or store them: your browser loads every picture straight from the publisher, so what you see is what the publisher is serving at that moment.
- How often do the pictures refresh?
- Whenever the publisher's camera uploads a new frame; each publisher sets its own interval and our data does not state a fixed one for most of them. When this page was built, 26 of the 26 cameras had a file time we could read, and the newest file was between 0 and 1813 minutes old (median 1 minutes). Reload the page to ask for the newest file.
- Why is a picture dark, grey or blurry?
- Most cameras simply record what is in front of them: it is dark at night, fog, cloud, rain or snow can hide the view, and a lens can mist or ice over. A dark picture does not by itself mean the camera is broken.
- Who runs these cameras?
- Public bodies and park or volcano observatories: Caltrans, National Park Service, U.S. Geological Survey, Alaska Volcano Observatory / U.S. Geological Survey, Courtesy Glacier National Park Conservancy and Courtesy Grand Canyon Conservancy via Pixelcaster. Each picture names its publisher and links to the publisher's own page; full credits are at the bottom of this page.
- Can I use or share these camera pictures?
- The pictures belong to the publishers and are shown here unaltered with their credit. Licences differ by publisher (the credit lines at the bottom of the page quote them), so check the publisher's terms before you reuse a picture anywhere else. You can always link to this page or to the publisher's page.
- Do the United States volcano cameras tell me if an eruption is happening?
- Not reliably. They show what the lens sees, which cloud, steam or darkness can hide. Eruption and alert information comes from the observatory (U.S. Geological Survey and Alaska Volcano Observatory / U.S. Geological Survey).
